Clapping, Rolling and Funny Noises (12/25/09)

Wow! It’s been more than 3 weeks since I wrote last. I had planned to write at least once a week… I can see that that’s going to be hard!

On December 2nd we had Carter’s 6 month appointment. He weighed 20 ½ pounds (90%), 28 ½ inches(above 95%; off chart) long and his head circumference was 46.5cm (above 95%; off chart). The appointment went well and the doctor said he was doing great. The worst part of the appointment as usual, was his shots. He had 4. 2 in each leg! Carter was a little crabby already because he was hungry and tired so the shots just made it all the worse. He cried a lot more than usual and it took a lot longer to calm him down. Other than the shots, he did great!

Carter started clapping that week as well. Daycare had told us a while ago that he had clapped for them but I thought maybe he just put his hands together and it looked like a clap. But this time, it really is an open handed clap! It so exciting! And now all we have to say is “clap, clap, clap” and he starts to clap! He’s such a smart little guy!

He also finally rolled over! He only does it from back to front, but hey it’s a start! Now that he knows how, he rolls all the time and then gets really excited when he gets on his tummy. Often when he wakes up from a nap he’s on his tummy and fussing a little because he still hasn’t figured out how to get back on his back.

Carter just the other day (12/14/09) started to lean back with his arms up while making a face when he was frustrated. I’m not sure if that’s the exact reason but it’s really funny when he does it. The video below shows him doing it. It’s a little long but worth it and also at the end of the video it shows him making another funny noise. He’s full of funny noises!

Speaking of… he also makes, what we call, his sleepy noise. This isn’t a new thing he’s been doing but he’s been doing it since about 3 months. The video below isn’t the best b/c he’s a little congested and is coughing but you get the gist of what the noise is. He usually will make the noise when he gets sleepy and will keep doing it until he falls asleep, which can sometimes be a long time and sometimes it’s really loud too. It’s hard not to start cracking up when he does it because I obviously want to try and be quiet so he can fall asleep.

Here's a great Christmas picture. I'll really try and upload more pics soon after Christmas. I'm sure I'll have lots of good ones to sort through!
